Health and Well-Being Curriculum
At the River Centre, our Health and Well-Being curriculum is designed to develop pupils’ social, emotional, and physical wellbeing through meaningful, real-world learning. Pupils work towards recognised qualifications, including BTECs in Personal Growth and Work Skills, SWEET wellbeing awards, and Prince’s Trust programmes, within a supportive and inclusive environment. Learning is tailored to meet individual needs, with nurture provision offering smaller group support and differentiated pathways to help pupils build confidence, improve emotional regulation, and re-engage with education.
The curriculum is rooted in practical experiences that promote independence, resilience, and responsibility. Pupils take part in structured gym programmes, develop personal fitness and wellbeing plans, and contribute to projects such as the school community garden, applying skills across subjects including maths, science, and English. Regular wellbeing check-ins, physical health education, financial literacy, and opportunities for pupil voice ensure that students develop the knowledge and skills needed to manage their own wellbeing, make informed life choices, and feel a strong sense of belonging within the school community.
